Announcing: The Portland Morris Light R'Ale to observe the 20th Anniversary of the founding of the Bridgetown Morris Men. A unique opportunity to come to Portland, Oregon, and join a Morris tour of the metropolitan area on our highly regarded light rail system, complete with a sampling of some of our finest pubs and neighborhood locations along the light rail lines.   Your weekend will include luxury accommodations (clean sheets, comfortable beds, private showers), dancing in beautiful neighborhood locations, farmer’s markets, and parks, with a Saturday banquet to include a feast, open Morris dancing, and a ceilidh, complete with lots of opportunities for music, singing, and general camaraderie with fellow Morris Dancers from the west coast of the Western Hemisphere and beyond.

Celebrating: 20 years of the Bridgetown Morris Men bringing the energy of their dance, music, and song to the City of Portland, guided by a personal acquaintance with some of the best of the brewer’s art that the City and State have to offer.

When: The weekend of July 9th and 10th, with the celebration to begin upon arrival on Friday evening, July 8.  The festivities will draw to a close Sunday afternoon (or whenever your transportation requirements dictate).

Where: Our Friday evening reception party and open Morris dance is at the Eliot Center, a certified Green Building that is part of The First Unitarian Church of Portland. Our Saturday Banquet and ceilidh is in the same facility. The aforementioned luxurious accommodations are courtesy of the Portland State University, and facilities will be reserved for music, singing, and sampling the wares of the local brewer, distiller, and wine maker arts.

What: Our Light R'Ale is a public transport based ale. We promise, no diesel powered school buses belching clouds of foul exhaust while bouncing us along to the next stop – rather, join us for smooth, quiet, efficient train and tram transport on the tours.  There will be four separate tours, each taking the dancers on a different pass through town, with dancing at several unique public places chosen for their charm. We’ll be visiting brewpubs and breweries for lunch and a song, with additional public dance locations along the way, culminating in massed dancing in the heart of Portland to complete the tours. (Kindly note that although the diesel bus mode of transport does permit the consumption of alcohol while on board, public transportation facilities frown on that sort of thing, so we’ll ask that thirsts be slaked at the stops along the route.)

How Much: The basic cost for one adult in a shared room is $150 USD. If you want to go solo in your own private room it costs $50 more. Kids under 12 are $50 (assuming they stay in a room with their parents), and kids under 5 are FREE. If you want to put the kids in their own room, they get to pay the almost grown up rate of $100. A limited number of reduced-price scholarships are available. Please email or call the contacts below if you’d like to request a scholarship. Folks that don't need a room can attend all ale events for $100.

Registration: For our Bagman’s sanity we’d prefer that each side purchase their tickets as a group, but individual tickets may also be purchased. Our registration site is hosted by Eventbrite: http://portland-morris-light-rale.eventbrite.com

Goodies: Light R’Ale t-shirts can also be ordered on our registration site.
Maps & General Info: We will be posting maps and general information as we get closer to the event and will send a link to your registration email when such things are available.

Contacts: Squire: Charley Rowley, rplace@gmail.com 503.702.5282, Foreman: Hugo Glanville, rain4est@gmail.com 971.344.3664, or both of us at the same time, info@bridgetownmorrismen.com.

Low Carbon Footprint: We're aiming to put on the lowest carbon-footprint Ale ever, eschewing petroleum based transportation as much as possible*. If you drive to Portland, you'll be moving on public transport until you depart. If you fly in, you'll be taking the Max Light Rail system from the airport to the downtown location for the ale and accommodations.

* We’re not Luddites - the Bridgetown Van Pool will be available in case of emergency.
